Renowned Marketing speaker and author, David Meerman Scott recently praised the city of Boston in his Web Ink Now blog (featured in Ad Age’s Power 150 as a top global marketing blog) for its effective communication plan to inform more than 2 million residents to boil water for cooking and drinking because of a major pipe leak. Local authorities, the City of Boston, the State of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority worked collectively to utilize their resources to provide accurate information and instructions to nearly 2 million people.

Mobile Marketing Growing Faster Than Any Other Medium
|
According to a 2010 Local Mobile Advertising & Promotions forecast, mobile marketing is set to reach higher penetration levels faster than any other medium has. This fast increase is due largely to an existing installed base of more than 80% of the population. Promotions, rather than regular advertising, will continue to dominate this medium and cause it to mature faster than any other media in its first 10 years of household penetration.
Text-based coupons, for example, are the fastest-growing and most obvious application – not to mention cost effective and easy to implement. For advertisers, mobile coupons offer a great ROI because statistics indicate redemptions rates are 10 times that of distributing coupons via mail or newspapers. More importantly, mobile coupons can also be changed quickly and can target consumers much more effectively.

Will Social Strategizing Bring ROI? |
|
In a recent study, a majority of marketing professionals claim social media to be an invaluable resource to their business. However, despite this statistic, only 30% of those in favor of social media claim to be profiting from their social efforts.
Marketers clearly recognize the need for it, but are still in the development process in driving engagements which will in turn lead to profitability. A Marketing Sherpa survey in late 2009 indicated that only 25% of social media marketers had reached the strategic phase.
